Hello everyone,

I am using the HTML Help Workshop (version 4.74.8702) to create a .CHM file
that has lots of stories and pictures (it's an electronic family album).
It's coming along okay, however the file size is growing and growing. The
size of the .chm file is now 1.3MB.

I have some more stuff I'd like to put into it, so the file size could reach
3MB.

Is there a maximum limit to how big one help file can be ?

Thanks for your input,

Peter

This question often comes up.
We've never had a problem. We have lots of technical
images in our merged help. You're right the images really
blow out the size of CHMs. Our larger CHMs are all
10MB and up.

And we are very careful with images. Although at the
end of the project I often need to reduce the size of
JPGs (our authors often import huge images that are way
to big for on-screen display).

And I like to open our CHMs with a program like FAR HTML
that can list the contents of a CHM and allows me to sort
the file contents by file size. I usually find some of our authors have
accidently linked to say a PDF (one we ship as an external file).
The act of using a normal <a href=".."></a> link causes
the HH compiler to pull the PDF into the CHM.... and bloats the CHM.
Cheers
Rob
